Arenko has expanded its collaboration with RWE by providing software support for three UK co-located solar and battery projects totalling 150MW.
The agreement doubles the number of Arenko-supported RWE sites to six and builds on a framework partnership signed in 2024, the company said.
RWE is developing the projects using a DC-coupled architecture designed to operate as a single dispatchable unit. Two of the sites will include four-hour battery systems, placing them toward the upper end of long-duration battery energy storage installations in the UK market.
RWE will deploy Arenko’s Nimbus platform across the new assets to deliver monitoring, control, optimisation and automated trading capabilities.
Sarah Standen, head of commercial asset optimisation UK at RWE, said: “We have been impressed by the level of technical collaboration and flexibility Arenko has demonstrated across our initial projects.
“As we continue to expand our UK renewable and storage portfolio, it is important to work with partners who can manage complexity and integrate securely with our internal systems.”
Rupert Newland, chief executive of Arenko, said the projects introduce additional complexity by combining solar and storage within a DC-coupled design.
“Ultimately, our goal is to enable hybrid systems that can perform on a par with standalone batteries as co-located sites grow in importance in the UK energy landscape,” he added.
The broader UK market is seeing rising interest in hybrid developments, with the AR7a auction awarding 4.9GW of solar capacity, much of which is expected to be paired with battery storage. Arenko said the expanded partnership reinforces its position as a specialist software provider for complex renewable assets in the UK.
