Renewable energy developer Boralex has secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) for its consented 44-megawatt Sallachy Wind Farm in Scotland under the UK’s Allocation Round 7, the company said.
The CfD clears the way for a final investment decision on the project, which Boralex aims to bring online in 2028. The wind farm is located near Lairg in Sutherland and forms part of the company’s wider UK portfolio, which it said aligns with Scotland’s ambition to double onshore wind capacity by 2030.
“Securing a CfD will allow us to take the Final Investment Decision for Sallachy, with the aim of bringing the project online in the course of 2028,” said Esbjörn Wilmar, Boralex’s vice president for the United Kingdom.
Boralex said the Sallachy project is expected to deliver socio-economic benefits through the use of local supply chains and a community benefit fund valued at £5,000 per megawatt of installed capacity.
Wilmar said the outcome of the auction underlined policy support for renewables investment. “We welcome the strong message and commitment the United Kingdom Government has shown to both energy security and delivering the 2030 renewable energy targets,” he said, adding that the CfD “provides a stable platform for our continued investment and reflects the strength of our UK project portfolio and our UK team”.
Boralex said progress at Sallachy supports its UK growth ambitions under its 2030 Strategy. The company added that it currently holds a development and operating portfolio of more than 700 MW across Scotland, England and Wales.
