Siemens Gamesa has secured a turbine supply and long-term maintenance contract for the Mt Cass Wind Farm in New Zealand.
The 94.6MW project will comprise 22 SG 4.3-130 turbines installed along ridgelines near Waipara in North Canterbury.
The manufacturer said the site benefits from strong wind resources and is expected to generate more than 300GWh of electricity annually once operational.
Siemens Gamesa added that output from the project, which is being developed, owned and operated by Yinson Renewables, will be sufficient to power around 40,000 homes while avoiding approximately 100,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions each year.
The company noted that New Zealand already sources about 86% of its electricity from renewables, with wind generation forecast to more than triple by 2035.
