Iberdrola has placed two new photovoltaic plants into commercial operation in Wasco County, Oregon, through its US subsidiary Avangrid.
The company said the 189MWdc Daybreak Solar facility and the 80MWdc Bakeoven Solar plant add a combined 269MWdc of new capacity amid rising national electricity demand.
It added that both sites are already supplying power to Portland General Electric as part of a statewide programme designed to provide newly built generation for large municipal, industrial and commercial customers.
According to Iberdrola, the scheme gives major users such as Intel more agile and competitive access to new renewable capacity.
The company said the projects will boost the local economy and employment while reinforcing Iberdrola’s long-term commitment to the US market, where it holds €49.4bn in assets.
Iberdrola plans to invest a further €16bn in the country through 2028 as it serves nearly 10 million people across its network businesses in New York, Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
