Sungrow Secures Contract to Supply 2.1GW of Inverters for World's Largest Solar Farm in Saudi Arabia

Sungrow, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, has recently secured a significant agreement to supply 2.1 gigawatts (GW) of inverters for the Al Shuaibah PV project in Saudi Arabia. Once operational, this solar farm will become the largest in the world, marking a major milestone in the renewable energy sector. The inverter supply contract was signed with China Energy International Group, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor responsible for the project. Sungrow's 1+X Modular inverter solutions will be utilized for the installation, ensuring efficient and reliable energy conversion. Anticipated to commence operations in 2025, the Al Shuaibah PV project will be owned and operated by ACWA Power and Badeel, a subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Under a power purchase agreement (PPA), the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) will purchase the electricity generated by the facility. James Wu, Senior Vice President of Sungrow, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the company by China Energy International Group. He emphasized Sungrow's commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of this remarkable project, providing dependable solutions and dedicated local service. As the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region continues to witness a thriving renewable energy market, Sungrow aims to contribute to the local energy transition by offering competitive products and services. Sungrow's 1+X modular inverter is specifically designed to withstand the challenging environmental conditions prevalent in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including sand, dryness, wind, and extreme heat. This innovative product combines the advantages of string and central inverter technologies. It offers a minimum capacity of 1.1 megawatts (MW) per unit, with the flexibility to expand up to 8.8 MW by grouping eight units together. The modular nature of the inverter allows customers to tailor its size according to their specific project requirements. Furthermore, the Al Shuaibah PV project aligns with the Saudi government's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which aims to fulfill 70% of the country's renewable energy needs through the Public Investment Fund by 2030. This ambitious initiative underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to clean and sustainable energy sources. ACWA Power, a prominent developer, owner, and operator of power generation and water desalination plants, is actively involved in multiple solar projects in Saudi Arabia. In addition to its partnership with Badeel for the Al Shuaibah PV project, ACWA Power recently signed another agreement to develop a massive 4.5 GW Saudi solar portfolio, consisting of three GW-scale projects. These ventures further solidify ACWA Power's position as a key player in the kingdom's renewable energy sector. The collaboration between Sungrow, China Energy International Group, ACWA Power, and other stakeholders represents a significant step toward the realization of Saudi Arabia's renewable energy goals. By harnessing the abundant solar resources available in the region, the Al Shuaibah PV project will not only contribute to a sustainable future but also propel the country's clean energy transition forward.
