UK renewable energy trade body RenewableUK has appointed Tara Singh as its next chief executive, with effect from Feb. 23, the association said.
Singh brings more than 20 years of experience spanning UK government, global energy companies and public affairs. She will succeed interim leadership as the organisation represents around 500 member companies across the renewable energy supply chain.
“I’m proud to champion the UK’s clean energy sector, which provides half the UK’s electricity, supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, and has saved consumers over £100 billion since 2010 by cutting our exposure to volatile imported fuels,” Singh said in a statement.
She said her priority would be to strengthen collaboration between government and industry to support growth, improve energy security and attract investment across the country.
Deputy chief executive Jane Cooper, who has led the organisation over the past 10 months, said Singh’s appointment comes at a time of increased scrutiny for the sector. “As the political and media landscape has continued to shift over the past year, our sector has faced growing scrutiny and complexity,” Cooper said, adding that Singh brings extensive experience from her work in government and the private sector.
RenewableUK chair Laura Fleming said Singh takes on the role at a critical moment for the industry. “She steps into the role at a crucial time for our sector, as the association remains determined to advocate strongly for the right environment to deliver our country’s clean energy future, building vital new clean energy infrastructure,” Fleming said.
