Danish renewable energy company Ørsted said it is considering legal proceedings after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a temporary shutdown of all five offshore wind farms currently under construction in the United States.
In a statement, Ørsted said it was assessing how best to respond to the order, which suspends construction activity for 90 days.
“Ørsted is evaluating all options to resolve the matter expeditiously, together with its partners,” the company said. “This includes engagement with BOEM and other permitting agencies as well as the evaluation of potential legal proceedings.”
The suspension applies to two Ørsted-led projects: the 924-megawatt Sunrise Wind project and the 704-megawatt Revolution Wind project, the company said.
Ørsted said Revolution Wind had been scheduled to begin generating power next month.
The company added that both projects are complying with the shutdown order and have taken steps to pause activities in a way that avoids risks to people or the environment.
“Both wind farms are complying with the respective orders and are taking appropriate steps to suspend related activities in a manner that prevents impacts on health, safety, and the environment,” Ørsted said.
