Renewable energy developer Greenvolt Group has agreed to sell a 253-megawatt onshore wind project in Romania to Engie Romania, through its Greenvolt Power unit, the companies said.
The project is located in Ialomița County in south-eastern Romania and is already under construction, with completion expected in 2027, according to Greenvolt.
Once completed, the wind farm will consist of 42 turbines and is expected to be among the largest wind projects in Romania. Engie said the acquisition would double its renewable generation capacity in the country to about 500 MW.
Greenvolt said part of the project’s capacity has secured a 15-year contract for difference, providing long-term revenue visibility.
“Greenvolt’s ability to originate, develop and bring to market high-quality renewable energy assets is once again demonstrated through this project,” João Manso Neto, chief executive of Greenvolt Group, said, adding that the transaction supports the European energy transition and the company’s asset-rotation strategy.
Cristian Buzan, vice president at Engie Romania, said the acquisition reflected Engie’s commitment to expanding renewable energy in the country. “By integrating a large-scale wind project of this size into our portfolio, we are doubling our renewable footprint in a market with strong growth potential,” he said.
The transaction follows several asset-rotation deals completed by Greenvolt in 2025, including wind projects in Poland, a greenfield development pipeline in Spain and battery storage transactions in Poland, the company said.
