German wind turbine maker Nordex has won an order for 107 megawatts of wind capacity in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of a repowering project near the town of Steinfurt, the company said.
The order was placed by Bürgerwind Hollich GmbH & Co KG and covers the supply and installation of 16 turbines at the Hollich Sellen citizens’ wind farm. Nordex will install twelve N163/6.X turbines on 164-metre hybrid towers and four N149/5.X turbines on 125-metre tubular steel towers. The agreement also includes a 25-year premium maintenance contract.
The new turbines will replace Nordex N131 machines that have been in operation at the site since 2015, according to the company. Nordex said the close proximity of its service base in Steinfurt would allow for short response times and ongoing operational support for the wind farm.
The first turbine is expected to start supplying electricity in spring 2027.
“We did not make the selection of turbines lightly,” said Jörg Tiemann, managing director of the Bürgerwindpark Hollich Group. “Among other reasons, our decision in favor of Nordex was based on many years of positive experience in project implementation and service, the advanced turbine technology, and our trust in this manufacturer.”
Nordex said the project builds on a long-standing partnership with the citizen-led wind initiative. “After operating the Nordex N131 turbines, we are now delighted to be able to install the next generation of wind turbines in the Hollich wind farm,” said Karsten Brüggemann, vice president for the central region at Nordex.
The Bürgerwind Hollich Group operates 35 wind turbines in the Steinfurt area through two wind parks, with more than 1,000 local residents directly involved as investors. For the repowering project, a new company has been established to allow residents, landowners and local citizens to participate following the publication of a sales prospectus.
