Uniper will develop the 68-megawatt-peak (MWp) Berryhill solar park north of Dundee, marking the company’s first solar project in Scotland, it said on Wednesday.
The scheme was developed in partnership with Solar2, though Uniper plans to proceed as the sole owner during construction. The site will host approximately 152,000 solar panels with the potential to generate 45 megawatts of renewable electricity, enough to supply more than 12,500 UK households annually.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with the project expected to start generating power later that year. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks will install a 9-kilometre medium-voltage cable connecting the solar park to the Charleston substation on Kingsway in Dundee.
Planning permission was initially granted by Angus Council in 2022 and updated in 2024 following revised proposals from Solar2. Once operational, the project will include a community fund to be agreed with Muirhead, Birkhill and Liff Council.
Uniper said the development reflects its broader strategy to expand renewable energy generation in the UK.
