Great British Energy (GBE) has launched a £1 billion programme aimed at strengthening the United Kingdom’s clean energy supply chains and supporting long-term economic growth, the company said on Wednesday.
The initiative, called Energy Engineered in the UK, is designed to mobilise public and private capital to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and create thousands of skilled jobs. As part of the programme, a £300 million GBE Supply Chain Fund has opened to address bottlenecks in offshore wind and electricity networks, including shortages in blades, turbines, transmission cables and converter stations.
GBE said the investment is intended to reinforce the UK’s position in offshore wind deployment and network innovation. The fund is a component of the government’s modern Industrial Strategy, a 10-year plan aimed at boosting investment, enhancing competitiveness and supporting employment.
The company will work with partners such as the National Wealth Fund, the Scottish National Infrastructure Bank and The Crown Estate to help unlock financing for large-scale manufacturing projects. GBE is also launching a Deepwater Wind Commercialisation Programme with FLOWEX to advance industrial opportunities in next-generation offshore wind technologies.
