Nordex Group said it has secured contracts from U.S. utility Alliant Energy for up to 190 Delta4000 turbines totaling just over 1 gigawatt, supporting large-scale wind projects planned across the U.S. Midwest, including Iowa.
The agreements, awarded after a competitive request-for-proposal process, cover Nordex’s N133 and N163 turbines, with installation expected in 2028 and 2029. The deals will take effect once regulatory approvals are finalized, the company said.
Alliant Energy said the investment is expected to strengthen Iowa’s manufacturing base and support regional economic development, while contributing to the company’s long-term resource strategy. Nordex plans to produce the turbines at its recently restarted West Branch, Iowa, facility, which manufactures hubs, drivetrains and nacelles.
“Choosing Nordex underscores our confidence in their skills and our commitment to working with partners who support our ability to serve our customers and communities, and we are pleased to have selected a local provider for this work,” said Lisa Barton, president and chief executive of Alliant Energy. She added that the decision “promotes substantial, economic development opportunities throughout our service area and enables us to efficiently meet the increasing energy demand.”
The companies noted that the contracts are not yet considered firm orders pending required regulatory approvals. Antonio Smyth, Alliant’s executive vice president for power generation and gas strategy, said Nordex demonstrated “advanced technology, supply chain discipline, and capability to successfully execute these projects while providing added value through local turbine manufacturing in Iowa.”
Nordex executives welcomed the milestone award. “We are proud to work with Alliant Energy on these landmark projects and appreciate this strong vote of confidence in the company and our Delta4000 technology,” said Manav Sharma, chief executive of Nordex North America. José Luis Blanco, chief executive of the Nordex Group, said the award “stands as the largest volume awarded in our company’s 25-year history in the US,” adding that it affirms the decision to restart production in Iowa and reinforces the firm’s commitment to the U.S. market.
