Ireland’s national planning authority, An Coimisiún Pleanála, has granted approval for EDF’s proposed Seskin wind farm in County Carlow, the company said.
The project will feature a seven-turbine layout with tip heights of 180 metres and rotor diameters between 149 and 155 metres. EDF expects the wind farm to begin commercial operations in 2029.
An Coimisiún Pleanála noted that the proposal is “acceptable in principle having regard to national, regional and local policy in support of, and requiring the delivery of increased onshore wind energy to meet climate and energy security objectives.”
The approved layout includes a 720-metre setback from the nearest residential property. The wind farm will connect to the grid via a 38-kilovolt underground cable linking to the existing Kilkenny 110-kilovolt substation.
EDF said the approval marks a key milestone in its efforts to expand onshore renewable energy capacity in Ireland.
