Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy has signed an Implementation Agreement with Clean Energy Capital LLC, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Green Energy Company, to advance a 600-megawatt offshore wind project in the Caspian Sea, the ministry said.
The agreement covers the assessment, development and implementation of the project, which will begin with an initial 200 MW phase. Under the terms of the deal, Clean Energy Capital will conduct research within a designated area of the Caspian to support planning for future construction.
The ministry said the agreement marks a further step in efforts to expand the country’s renewable energy portfolio. No timeline for construction or commissioning was disclosed.
In a statement, the ministry noted that the offshore scheme represents a significant opportunity for domestic clean-energy development. Clean Energy Capital, according to the release, will “carry out research within a designated water area” as part of the project’s early-stage work.
