The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has lodged an objection to Orsted’s proposed 1,400-MW Mooir Vannin offshore wind farm, citing potential interference with radar systems at British Aerospace’s Warton airfield in Lancashire.
The project, planned to comprise 87 turbines off the Isle of Man, was submitted for marine infrastructure consent earlier this year. The Isle of Man government said it received 477 responses during the public consultation.
Following the feedback, the Council of Ministers has referred the application to an independent panel of experts, which will conduct a 130-day examination before issuing a recommendation on whether the consent should be granted.
A separate application covering transmission infrastructure for the project is expected to be submitted to UK authorities in 2027.
