TotalEnergies Secures Favorable Environmental Impact Assessment for Major Solar Projects in Spain

has received a positive from the Spanish Ministry of Energy Transition and Autonomous Communities for an estimated 3GW of solar power capacity installations.

The approval pertains to the 48 power plants that the company intends to develop in the region, with an installed capacity of 1.9GW.

Additionally, the approval covers projects in the Murcia region totaling over 350MW, as well as 300MW in -La Mancha. The final developments include 263MW in Andalusia and 150MW in Aragon.

The initial sites are scheduled to commence operations in early 2024.

TotalEnergies plans to implement various compensatory measures, such as bird marking for behavior monitoring and leasing an additional 400 hectares for conservation efforts.

Furthermore, the company will allocate 1.5% of the plant's production for electricity bill discounts for local residents. It will also provide construction and operation & maintenance training to residents in nearby municipalities.

Pouyanné highlighted the significance of these solar farms for Spain's energy transition, noting that they have the potential to provide electricity to the equivalent of the entire population of the Madrid community.

He also emphasized the importance of these projects for TotalEnergies' objective of achieving 100GW of gross renewable installed capacity worldwide by 2030.
