The Vestas factory in Daimiel has announced plans to produce wind blades of the V163 model starting in the second quarter of 2024. This new project will be added to the existing production lines for the V136, V150, and Enventus V150 models at the plant.
The V163 blade is over 80 meters long and is a component of Vestas' new V163-4.5 MW wind turbine. This turbine represents a progression in the 4MW platform, with an 18 percent increase in swept area compared to the V150 rotor. This enhancement significantly boosts power production at lower wind speeds, leading to improved predictability and stability in production. It also optimizes wind farm performance and benefits the power grid.
The director of Vestas Daimiel, Roberto Meiriño, expresses excitement about the company's ongoing confidence in the Daimiel plant. The variety of blades manufactured there demonstrates the plant's flexibility and capacity to adapt to different circumstances. Meiriño emphasizes the importance of maintaining Vestas' high levels of safety and quality.
Vestas' activity in Spain continues to grow in terms of orders. Over the past year, the company has announced firm orders for more than 300 MW. The most recent order, received in March of this year, is for the V163-4.5 MW in Europe, totaling 140 MW that will be installed in Castilla y León. Agustín Sánchez-Tembleque, CEO of Vestas Spain and Portugal, highlights how Vestas' latest models can provide reliability and predictability to optimize business in Spain. The company's strong presence in the Spanish market contributes to the country's energy transition.
The introduction of new products at the Daimiel plant, along with the competitiveness of the factory and its commitment to employee training, significantly contributes to job creation in the region. Additionally, Vestas continues to increase its permanent workforce, emphasizing stability and quality employment.
As part of Vestas' global sustainability strategy, the Daimiel plant is making efforts to achieve more sustainable production. It has recently invested in implementing water-based paints in the blade painting process, eliminating solvents and reducing CO2 emissions. This aligns with Vestas' goal of achieving zero waste production by 2040.
