TagEnergy said it has made its first investment in UK wind generation through the acquisition of four mid-stage development projects in Scotland, with a combined capacity of nearly 300 megawatts (MW).
The global clean energy company acquired full ownership of the Cairnmore Hill, Glenburnie, Sclenteuch and Torfichen wind farms from developer RES. RES will continue to provide development services for the projects, TagEnergy said in a statement.
The projects, located near Thurso, Midlothian, East Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders, represent a total capacity of around 270MW.
TagEnergy said the acquisitions mark a major milestone in its growth as a multi-technology independent power producer (IPP), combining renewable generation and energy storage assets across the UK.
Chief Executive Franck Woitiez described the move as a pivotal step in the company’s expansion strategy.
“This is a monumental step in TagEnergy’s UK journey as we become a true multi-technology IPP with generation and storage technologies to drive the country’s energy transition on more fronts simultaneously,” Woitiez said.
He added that the acquisitions align with the UK’s renewable energy goals.
“These wind farm acquisitions are a strategic investment — in technology, location and timing. Onshore wind is critical to delivering the UK’s clean energy future,” he said.
TagEnergy currently operates six grid-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the UK with a combined capacity of 320MW, bringing its total UK pipeline to more than 1.5 gigawatts (GW).
Lucy Whitford, managing director of RES UK & Ireland, said the partnership with TagEnergy would continue as the projects advance toward construction.
“We’re delighted to continue our relationship with TagEnergy and look forward to seeing these four wind farms come to life with our continued support,” Whitford said.
The acquisition marks another step in TagEnergy’s strategy to expand its footprint in renewable generation and support the UK’s transition toward a low-carbon power system.
