Ørsted, a company, has recently awarded Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation () a significant contract to manufacture and supply foundations for the impressive Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. This partnership signifies a major step forward in the development of sustainable energy solutions in the Pacific region.

The contract entails the production of 33 suction bucket jacket (SBJ) foundations, which Ørsted has identified as an environmentally friendly and innovative solution. These foundations, designed with Ørsted's unique specifications, will mark the first implementation of this technology in the Asia Pacific area. By utilizing these cutting-edge foundations, Ørsted aims to establish a reliable and long-lasting source of green energy that will benefit generations to come.

The manufacturing process is projected to require approximately 70,000 tonnes of steel, resulting in a significant boost to the steel industry and the creation of numerous job opportunities. PTSC, along with other contractors in the supply chain, will play a vital role in this large-scale project.

Le Manh Cuong, the President and CEO of PTSC, expressed his excitement about this milestone achievement for , as it represents the country's first major export contract in the rapidly expanding offshore wind power sector. The execution of this contract will not only generate thousands of employment opportunities for PTSC's employees but also contribute to the establishment of a robust supply chain in Vietnam, supporting future offshore wind power projects.

The installation of the foundations at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 sites is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. This timeline demonstrates Ørsted's commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions in a timely manner.

This contract announcement follows Ørsted's final investment decision made in March 2023. With construction already underway, the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms are poised to become prominent landmarks in the Asia Pacific region's renewable energy landscape. These projects are expected to be among the largest offshore wind ventures in the area, marking a significant leap forward in meeting the region's energy needs sustainably.

The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms will feature approximately 65 wind turbines, each boasting an individual capacity of 14 MW. Strategically located 35-60 kilometers off the Changhua coast, these turbines will harness the region's abundant wind resources to generate clean electricity, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

It's worth noting that Ørsted secured 920 MW of grid capacity for the offshore wind farms through Taiwan's first competitive price-based auction in 2018. Notably, this auction did not impose mandatory local content requirements. Two years later, Ørsted signed a crucial corporate (CPPA) with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), ensuring the full uptake of energy produced by Changhua 2b and 4.

The collaboration between Ørsted and PTSC in the manufacturing and installation of the foundations for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms represents a significant stride in the pursuit of renewable energy solutions. With the deployment of innovative technology and the creation of a robust supply chain, this project is poised to make a lasting impact on the energy landscape of the Asia Pacific region, facilitating sustainable development for years to come.
