Q Energy and Velto Renewables have inaugurated the 26-megawatt (MW) Haut-Chemin 2 wind farm in France’s Haute-Marne region, expanding an existing site and marking a new milestone in their renewable energy partnership.
The seven-turbine project, located in the municipality of Biesles, adds to the original 20MW Haut-Chemin wind farm commissioned by Q Energy in 2014. The companies said the new facility will generate enough renewable electricity to supply around 29,500 additional people while avoiding about 27,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Q Energy said the inauguration follows the launch of its Îlots Blandin floating solar project earlier this year and brings its total installed renewable capacity in Haute-Marne close to 300MW — enough to supply more than 250,000 people annually.
The Haut-Chemin 2 project began development in 2015 and received full permitting in 2023. Q Energy team lead for wind development Alice Fournier said the commissioning represents “the culmination of ten years of collaboration with local stakeholders who are firmly committed to an energy transition project that contributes to economic and regional development.”
“We are very grateful for this support and proud of the great trust that has been placed in us to give green energy a further boost in the Haute-Marne region,” Fournier added.
The project is the fourth renewable energy facility developed jointly by Q Energy and Velto Renewables under a long-term partnership.
Velto Renewables portfolio manager for France Lionel Daras said, “This project fully embodies our commitment to supporting territories in their energy transition. We are delighted to establish a long-term presence in Haute-Marne alongside local stakeholders.”
Velto Renewables chief executive Lucas de Haro described the inauguration as a landmark for the company’s expansion in France. “Today marks the commissioning of our first wind project in France, a key milestone that confirms our ambition to become a local clean energy producer in the country and a leading wind player in Europe,” he said.
Q Energy and Velto Renewables said the project reflects both firms’ strategy to strengthen their renewable portfolios in Europe while fostering regional partnerships to advance the energy transition.
