Simply Blue Group, an Irish offshore wind developer, said on Thursday it has secured a strategic investment from Kansai Electric Power Co Ltd to support the expansion of its offshore wind projects.
Kansai has signed a share subscription agreement with Simply Blue Energy OSW, the group’s offshore wind arm. The investment marks Kansai’s first direct involvement with management in an offshore wind developer, Simply Blue said.
“This investment represents a pivotal moment for us at Simply Blue Energy OSW Ltd,” said Hugh Kelly, co-founder and CEO of Simply Blue Group. “The support from Kansai provides the strength and resources needed to scale our operations and advance our offshore wind initiatives. Together, we are poised to deliver significant contributions to the clean energy transition.”
Toru Kuwahara, executive vice-president at Kansai Electric, added: “We are honoured to embark on a partnership with Simply Blue Energy, a developer possessing a pioneering spirit and extensive expertise in the field of offshore wind power. Through this collaboration, we aim to further advance offshore wind development for both companies and contribute to achieving a carbon-neutral society.”
Simply Blue Energy OSW is developing multiple offshore wind projects across Europe and other regions. The company said the partnership will facilitate knowledge sharing and accelerate the deployment of its portfolio.
Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Micheál Martin welcomed the deal, stating: “Simply Blue has been a significant international actor in the fast-growing offshore renewable energy sector and this collaboration with KEPCO will further bolster its capacity. Together they will help drive the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, in Ireland and further afield.”
The companies said the investment aligns with Kansai’s long-term strategy to support global clean energy development and a zero-carbon future.
