Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been selected to take part in TenneT’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) programme to support the integration of large-scale offshore wind farms in the German and Dutch North Sea, the Indian engineering group said on Thursday.
L&T said it will deliver HVDC converter stations in collaboration with Hitachi Energy, a key component in transmitting power from offshore wind farms to onshore grids. The company said the nomination reinforces its capabilities in offshore wind infrastructure, backed by its fabrication facilities, engineering expertise and global supply chain.
S.N. Subrahmanyan, L&T’s chairman and managing director, said the partnership marks an important milestone in the company’s international clean energy portfolio. “This milestone marks a proud moment for L&T as we deepen our engagement in the global clean-energy landscape,” he said. “We thank TenneT for their trust and confidence and remain committed to delivering this development with excellence, safety, and sustainability at its heart.”
L&T deputy managing director Subramanian Sarma said the nomination underscores the firm’s technical and project management strengths. “This collaboration is a significant step forward for L&T’s offshore wind business,” he said. “It validates our engineering and project management strengths and demonstrates our ability to deliver integrated HVDC solutions for large-scale renewable projects.”
The company said its offshore wind operations are supported by multidisciplinary engineering teams and alliances with global partners, positioning it to expand further in Europe’s energy transition sector.
TenneT, a Dutch-German transmission system operator, is leading one of Europe’s largest offshore grid expansion programmes as part of efforts to connect up to 40 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by 2031.
