Welsh government-owned energy developer Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru has launched a public consultation for its proposed Glyn Cothi Wind Farm, a project that could generate up to 162 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy near Brechfa in Carmarthenshire.
The plan outlines 27 turbines of 6MW each, with the potential to supply electricity to about 144,000 homes across Wales. The company said the project remains in an early design phase, with local input expected to play a key role in shaping the final proposal.
“Our project design is in its preliminary stage,” said Simon Morgan, Development Director at Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru. “We are looking forward to meeting people at the consultation events, hearing the views and ideas of local people, and feeding our learnings back into the next stage of the design process.”
The consultation will include a series of local drop-in events in November. Attendees will be able to view a digital model of the proposed wind farm, alongside project information boards and maps.
The site is located within Brechfa Forest, an area of roughly 6,000 hectares managed by Natural Resources Wales. The forest is primarily used for timber production and recreation, and already hosts existing wind energy developments.
The Glyn Cothi project forms part of the Welsh government’s broader strategy to expand domestic renewable energy capacity in support of net-zero targets.
