German renewable energy developer BOREAS Energie has placed a conditional order with Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas for 41 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 235 megawatts (MW), the companies said on Monday.
The agreement, which includes turbine models V136, V150, V162 and V172, expands on a previous order earlier this year for 29 V162-6.2MW EnVentus turbines totalling 175MW. The new units are scheduled for commissioning between 2026 and 2027, and Vestas will provide full-service support under the terms of the deal.
“This renewed order underlines our long-standing and trusting cooperation with Vestas and stands for our shared vision of a future-proof and environmentally friendly energy industry,” said BOREAS managing director Jörg Kuntzsch. “With over 35 years of experience in the planning, construction and operation of wind and solar power plants, BOREAS, together with Vestas as the global market leader in the field of wind energy, creates high-performance solutions for a climate-friendly future.”
BOREAS, based in Dresden, has collaborated with Vestas since 1992, when it installed its first 250kW V26 turbine in the Saxon Ore Mountains. That turbine remains in operation today. Since then, the developer has purchased 334 Vestas turbines for projects across Germany.
“We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with BOREAS by jointly driving the development of nine locations in Central Germany,” said Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe. “BOREAS intends to deploy a wide range of Vestas turbine variants and we look forward to announcing the orders with a total capacity of up to 235MW as soon as they are finally confirmed.”
The companies said the conditional agreement reflects continued confidence in their strategic collaboration and a shared commitment to scaling up wind energy development in the region.
