EDF Power Solutions UK has started receiving turbine components for the 102-megawatt (MW) Stranoch wind farm, marking a major step forward in the construction of the onshore project located near New Luce in Dumfries and Galloway.
Initial deliveries include blades and tower sections supplied by Danish manufacturer Vestas, which are being transported under Police Scotland escort by logistics firm Colletts. EDF said convoys are operating from the Port of Cairnryan to the construction site in scheduled runs expected to continue into early December.
“Convoys will typically run twice daily, with Police Scotland and the project’s transport team working to maintain traffic flow and allow cars to pass where possible,” EDF Power Solutions UK said in a statement.
The company is advising local residents and road users to plan ahead and consider alternative routes during delivery periods. Regular updates are being provided via email and SMS alerts.
“This is a fantastic milestone in the construction of Stranoch wind farm and we are pleased to be working closely with Vestas and Police Scotland in safely delivering the components to the site over the coming months,” said Yusuf Patel, Chief Technical Officer at EDF Power Solutions UK.
“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience… and we endeavour to keep them updated to minimise disruption as far as possible,” he added.
Stranoch wind farm will consist of 20 turbines and is scheduled for completion in early 2027. Construction began in May 2024.
As part of its local engagement strategy, EDF launched a £20,000 annual sponsorship fund earlier this year to support community groups in the area. Once the project becomes operational, this will be replaced by a community benefit fund valued at approximately £510,000 per year.
The Stranoch project forms part of EDF’s broader UK renewables portfolio and contributes to Scotland’s national targets for decarbonising electricity generation.
