Sunotec has obtained financing for seven renewable energy projects in Bulgaria, comprising 115 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar capacity and 763 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage systems (BESS), the company said on Wednesday.
The portfolio includes one co-located solar and storage site alongside six standalone battery storage projects. Ownership is split between Sunotec and Solaris Holding, a 50/50 joint venture between Sunotec and the main shareholders of Eurohold Bulgaria.
“This marks a major milestone in our evolution as both a turnkey solutions provider and a long-term renewable energy investor,” said Viktor Stefanov, head of independent power production at Sunotec. “With these investments, we are contributing to Bulgaria’s energy independence and to building a more resilient, flexible and renewable power system.”
The standalone battery projects have been approved for subsidies under Bulgaria’s Restore programme, aimed at accelerating large-scale storage deployment and improving grid stability.
Sunotec said the developments would support the decarbonisation of Bulgaria’s power sector and complement its existing solar and storage assets in Pernik, Verinsko, and Selanovtsi.
The company added that the projects reinforce Sunotec’s and Solaris Holding’s positions as leading investors in Bulgaria’s renewable energy market.
