SSE has finished installing all five turbines at its 17 megawatt (MW) onshore wind farm in Puglia, southern Italy, the company said on Thursday.
Construction at the combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva sites began six months ago, with the installation of five Siemens Gamesa SG132-3.4MW turbines now complete and on schedule.
SSE Renewables led the work in collaboration with turbine supplier Siemens Gamesa and principal contractor Idoka Construzioni. The project supported approximately 70 construction roles at peak activity, providing a boost to the Puglia region’s supply chain.
With installation concluded, the wind farm has entered commissioning and testing phases ahead of full commercial operation, expected in 2026.
“We’re delighted to have safely and successfully installed all five turbines at our combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva wind farm site in Puglia,” said Gianluca Mercurio, country manager for Italy at SSE Renewables.
“This is an exciting achievement for our team as it marks an important delivery milestone for our first construction project in Italy. We are now looking forward to working closely with our supply chain and contractor partners as we move forward and begin testing and commissioning the wind farm in the months ahead of its target completion in 2026.”
The project is being developed by Parco Eolico Tramontana S.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary of SSE Renewables’ parent company SSE plc.
