German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex Group has secured a contract to deliver and install 236 megawatts (MW) of wind turbines for undisclosed projects in North America, with installation expected to begin in 2027.
The company said the order includes turbines from its N163/6.X series, configured for cold climate conditions. The units will feature an advanced anti-icing system designed to maintain turbine availability and reduce downtime caused by ice accumulation on rotor blades.
“The turbines will feature the cold climate version of the N163/6.X model, incorporating the company’s advanced anti-icing system for rotor blades to ensure high availability and minimise ice-related downtime during severe winter conditions,” Nordex said in a statement.
Details about the project developers and specific locations have not been disclosed. The N163/6.X is part of Nordex’s Delta4000 platform, which is tailored for medium and high wind sites and includes variants optimised for challenging weather environments.
The announcement comes as turbine manufacturers increasingly adapt technologies to meet regional climatic demands, particularly in colder markets like Canada and the northern United States.
Nordex has not provided financial terms of the deal.
