The UK government has delayed a planning decision on the proposed 1.5-gigawatt Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm, a joint development by TotalEnergies and Corio Generation, according to the Planning Inspectorate.
The decision on the Development Consent Order (DCO) had been expected on 10 October, but the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has now reset the statutory deadline, with a new date to be confirmed “as soon as possible.”
The project is part of the UK’s efforts to expand offshore wind capacity and is planned to be located approximately 54 kilometres off the Lincolnshire coast, featuring up to 100 wind turbines.
“Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has decided to reset the statutory deadline,” the Planning Inspectorate said in a statement on Monday.
The DCO application for Outer Dowsing was accepted for examination in April 2024. No reason for the delay has been disclosed.
The postponement comes amid a broader review of planning timelines for large-scale infrastructure projects as the UK aims to balance renewable energy deployment with environmental and regulatory considerations.
