Iberdrola and Windar Renovables have entered into an agreement for the construction of 95 transition pieces for the East Anglia Three (EA3) offshore wind farm in UK waters.
This order marks the largest of its kind for foundation construction thus far. The majority of the production will take place at Windar Renovables' facilities in Avilés, with the support of several Spanish suppliers involved in the manufacturing of the secondary structure.
The secondary structure will be integrated at the Port of Avilés before being transported to the United Kingdom. Over a period of 23 months, the production of these 95 pieces will require more than 2,000,000 working hours, leading to the creation of 400 jobs.
Production is set to commence in June, and each piece will have maximum dimensions of 20 meters in height, eight meters in diameter, and weigh 300 tons.
Located off the Norfolk coast, EA3 will have a capacity of 1.4GW. It will be part of the East Anglia Hub, which consists of 714MW of installed capacity. Windar Renovables has previously constructed 42 jackets and 126 pin piles for this project.
Orlando Alonso, Executive President of Windar Renovables, stated, “The contract signifies a significant advancement for our group in the offshore wind energy market, solidifying our position as a global leader in service performance, with Iberdrola as the primary beneficiary.”
