Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has completed the first turbine foundation pour at the 308-megawatt (MW) Sanquhar 2 onshore wind farm in southwest Scotland, the company said on Thursday.
The £400 million project, being developed by CWP Energy, will feature 44 turbines across Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire. Once operational, expected in 2027, the wind farm is projected to supply enough electricity to power more than 335,000 homes annually, making it the UK’s fourth-largest onshore wind development.
Jones Bros is leading construction on the site, with support from Cambrian. The first concrete pour was completed using two on-site batching plants, a move aimed at reducing vehicle movements and improving logistical efficiency.
“Completing the first pour is always a special milestone on wind farm schemes,” said Jonathan Maitland, project manager at Jones Bros. “Our highly skilled team has worked tirelessly and efficiently to reach this stage of the project, and we look forward to making further progress in the coming weeks and months.”
Additional work includes construction of access tracks, crane hardstandings for turbine erection, and platforms for two substations.
“It’s another significant renewable energy scheme for our talented Scottish team, and one we are enjoying working on,” said Garod Evans, contracts director at Jones Bros. “Current live wind farm projects include Benbrack, North Kyle, and Windy Standard III.”
Rod Wood, managing director of CWP Energy, said the milestone represents more than early-stage construction. “It is a pivotal moment in advancing a project that will play a key role in the UK’s renewable energy future,” he said.
