Belgian marine contractor DEME has been awarded a contract for the transport and installation of inter-array cables at the 900 megawatt (MW) Nordseecluster B offshore wind project, jointly developed by RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management, the company said on Thursday.
Under the contract, DEME will deliver and install approximately 124 kilometres of subsea cables to connect 60 wind turbines to the offshore substation in the German North Sea. The project is scheduled to commence in late 2027, with DEME’s cable installation vessel Living Stone to be mobilised for the work.
The scope of the agreement includes engineering, preparation, cable transport, installation, and associated support services.
“This new project further reinforces our cooperation with RWE and DEME’s leadership in the European subsea power cable market,” said Philip Scheers, General Manager for Subsea Power Cables at DEME. “With our modern and versatile offshore fleet and specialised equipment, we are ideally positioned to successfully deliver this interesting scope.”
Scheers added that the company’s extensive experience in cable installation and burial would support a smooth execution of the project. “We look forward to working closely with the joint venture between RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management to ensure seamless execution and collaboration,” he said.
The Nordseecluster is part of Germany’s efforts to accelerate offshore wind deployment as it targets 30 gigawatts of capacity by 2030.
