Qualitas Energy has secured contracts for two wind repowering projects in Germany with a combined capacity of more than 43 megawatts (MW), the company said on Wednesday, following the latest tender round by the Federal Network Agency.
In Sassenberg-Gröblingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, four new turbines with a capacity of 5.56MW each will replace older units, leveraging existing infrastructure and favourable wind conditions. Meanwhile, in Ingstetten, Baden-Württemberg, the company will install three 7.2MW turbines in the first phase of a planned six-unit development, pending future tender results.
Qualitas said the contract wins came in an oversubscribed auction held in August and reflect growing momentum in Germany’s wind energy repowering efforts.
“The successful awards for our repowering projects underline the implementation strength of our team and our commitment to the energy transition,” said Johannes Overbeck, co-chief executive of Qualitas Energy Deutschland. “We use state-of-the-art technology to increase the efficiency and contribution of our wind farms to renewable power generation.”
The company, which has more than 100 wind energy projects in its portfolio, said its development pipeline in Germany now exceeds 4 gigawatts (GW).
The German government has prioritised repowering of older wind farms as part of its broader efforts to meet renewable energy targets and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
