Irish renewable energy developer Galetech said on Wednesday it plans to expand into the UK and Australian markets as part of a strategy to double the size of its business in the coming years.
The Cavan-based company expects to create approximately 65 new jobs over the next three years, bringing its total workforce to 215. The recruitment drive will support its existing 1-gigawatt (GW) pipeline of onshore and offshore wind projects, alongside energy storage initiatives.
“We believe it’s essential for Ireland to invest in these emerging technologies so we can add value to the renewable energy produced on this island, rather than simply exporting electricity to neighbouring markets,” said Darren Sherry, CEO of Galetech Group. “This is the biggest opportunity for the green economy, particularly if we can develop solutions for difficult-to-decarbonise sectors such as aviation.”
The expansion marks a broader push by Galetech into international markets as demand grows for renewable energy solutions. The company has not specified a timeline for its market entry in the UK and Australia but said the move aligns with its ambition to become a global player in the green energy sector.
Ireland’s Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Niamh Smyth, welcomed the announcement, calling it “a major vote of confidence in Cavan and Ireland as a hub for innovation and green energy.”
“It is fantastic to see a locally founded company, not only creating 65 high-quality jobs right here in the region but also leading the charge in new frontiers like e-Fuels and expanding into global markets,” Smyth said.
Galetech’s expansion comes amid increased interest in renewable energy investments across Europe and Asia-Pacific, driven by climate targets and the need for energy diversification.
