Windward Offshore has received its first commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), the Windward Athens, marking a key milestone in the company’s entry into the offshore wind service market, it said on Tuesday.
Delivered by the Vard Brattvaag shipyard in Norway, the 87.5-metre vessel is designed for installation, commissioning, and maintenance work on offshore wind farms. It can accommodate up to 120 personnel and is equipped with a motion-compensated gangway, advanced crane systems, and hybrid propulsion prepared for future operation on green methanol.
Windward Athens is set to begin operations immediately under a charter with RWE, in partnership with North Star Renewables.
“The delivery of Windward Athens is a defining moment for Windward Offshore,” said managing director Benjamin Vordemfelde. “Being the first vessel in our fleet, she is the anchor stone for the high-quality and reliable services we will provide to the offshore wind industry.”
The vessel’s name honours one of the company’s founding shareholders, Windward Offshore said.
Bastian Hagebeuker, also managing director, added: “We are proud to commence a charter right after delivery of the vessel and work for RWE as the top tier global developer of offshore wind.”
The company confirmed that three additional sister ships — Windward Paris, Windward Munich, and Windward Hamburg — are currently under construction and will expand its CSOV fleet in the coming years.
