Red Rock Renewables has commenced power generation at the 67 megawatt (MW) Benbrack wind farm in Scotland, following energisation earlier this month, the company said on Friday.
The project is currently operating at up to 20% of its total capacity — equivalent to three turbines — as final grid testing and commissioning continue. Red Rock, along with turbine supplier Vestas, is in the final phase of commissioning, with commercial operations expected soon.
Robbie Williamson, Benbrack project manager, described the milestone as a “significant” step for the company. “The fact we are now delivering clean electricity to the grid is a positive contribution to net zero and the reason we have spent the last four years developing this project,” he said.
Construction began in October 2022, following Red Rock’s acquisition of the project in early 2021.
Once fully operational, Benbrack is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 60,000 Scottish homes.
