Renewable energy firm RES has been awarded a three-year contract to operate and maintain the Cleve Hill Solar Park, the UK’s largest solar project, located on the north Kent coast.
The 373-megawatt site, which began generating power in July, is expected to supply electricity to over 100,000 homes annually. It is designated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) due to its scale and contribution to the UK’s renewable energy targets.
Under the agreement, RES will deliver operations and maintenance (O&M) services aimed at improving the asset’s performance, efficiency and availability.
“Securing this contract is a significant milestone that reflects the confidence in our technical teams and our ability to deliver high-quality service on projects of national importance,” said Juan Gutiérrez, CEO Services at RES. “Cleve Hill demonstrates what’s achievable when ambition is matched with delivery.”
The company said the project underscores the need for ongoing progress in permitting, grid access and policy consistency to enable similar utility-scale developments across the country.
The Cleve Hill deal adds to RES’s growing UK and Ireland asset portfolio, which now totals 2.5 gigawatts—including 2.2GW of solar and 300MW of battery storage. Four new staff will join the company’s UK operations team to support the contract.
Cleve Hill was developed by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and constructed by Metlen. The project marks RES’s first O&M collaboration with Metlen in the UK, following earlier partnerships in Italy, Romania, and Australia.
