EDF has signed new optimisation and power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Verdant Energy for two co-located solar and battery storage projects in the UK, expanding on their existing partnership.
The agreements cover Verdant’s Walpole and Cowley developments and allow EDF to offtake solar generation and manage battery output through energy trading strategies. The projects aim to improve flexibility and grid efficiency by storing power during high generation periods and discharging it during peak demand.
This latest collaboration follows a similar agreement in September 2023 for the 50-megawatt Warley site, also developed by Verdant. EDF said the new deals strengthen its position as the UK’s largest purchaser of renewable energy, citing its leading share of the PPA market.
“These projects exemplify our commitment to innovation and driving value for our partners by leveraging cutting-edge optimisation strategies and co-location efficiencies,” said Stuart Fenner, director of wholesale market service commercial at EDF. “We’re thrilled to have signed agreements for two additional co-located solar and battery sites with Verdant Energy.”
EDF added that the co-location model aligns with the UK’s net zero targets by enhancing the availability of low-carbon electricity. Each site integrates solar generation with battery storage to improve system resilience and support energy decarbonisation goals.
