Spanish engineering and construction firm GRS has completed work on the 49MW/98MWh Glendevon battery energy storage system in Scotland, the company said on Monday.
The project, developed for investor Foresight, is now awaiting energisation. GRS will also provide operations and maintenance services for at least the first two years of the project’s lifecycle.
The investment was made through the Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners fund. The battery system is expected to help manage electricity demand peaks, support grid stability, and contribute to the UK’s broader decarbonisation efforts.
“The completion of the Glendevon battery project marks a key milestone in our commitment to support the UK’s transition to a net-zero energy system,” said Richard Thompson, partner at Foresight.
GRS handled engineering, design, construction and commissioning, leveraging the experience of its parent company Gransolar, which operates 126 energy projects globally.
“Storage is the key to making renewables firm and competitive,” said Christian Moeckel, global commercial director at GRS.
Battery energy storage projects like Glendevon are increasingly being deployed in the UK to enhance grid flexibility and support the integration of variable renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
