Acciona Energía has agreed to sell its 65% ownership in the 49.5-megawatt Chiripa wind farm in Costa Rica to Ecoenergía, which already holds the remaining 35% stake in the project.
The transaction values the enterprise at $80 million (€71.4 million) and is expected to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory and financial approvals, the company said in a statement.
Located in the Guanacaste province, the Chiripa wind farm has been in operation since 2015 under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme and benefits from a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) that runs until 2033. The project is supported by $50 million (€44.6 million) in project financing.
Acciona described the sale as part of its ongoing asset rotation strategy aimed at reinforcing its financial position. The company has recently completed similar divestments in Spain and Peru.
“The divestment is part of our asset rotation strategy to strengthen our financial position,” Acciona said.
Ecoenergía’s acquisition of full ownership consolidates its position in Costa Rica’s renewable energy sector, where wind power plays a key role in the country’s electricity mix.
