RenewableNI, the industry body representing Northern Ireland’s renewable electricity sector, has appointed Mark Richardson as its new director, the organisation said on Monday.
Richardson joins from Scottish Renewables, where he currently serves as head of offshore wind. He has also previously led onshore wind and consenting policy for the organisation.
“I’m delighted to be joining RenewableNI at such a pivotal time for Northern Ireland’s energy transition,” Richardson said in a statement. “I look forward to working with members, stakeholders, and policymakers to ensure renewables play their full role in delivering a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future.”
The appointment comes as Northern Ireland aims to achieve a zero-carbon electricity system by 2035, with RenewableNI advocating for increased deployment of wind, solar, and energy storage technologies across the region.
Industry figures welcomed the announcement, highlighting Richardson’s experience and the timing of his appointment.
“The renewables sector in Northern Ireland is on the verge of taking off again,” said Wind Energy Ireland Chief Executive Noel Cunniffe. “Mark’s leadership will help drive the next phase of development.”
Ana Musat, Director of Policy and Engagement at RenewableUK, added: “He has a great track record of collaborating with members and influencing decision makers, which will be invaluable as RenewableNI continues to grow.”
RenewableNI was established in partnership with RenewableUK and Wind Energy Ireland, and its membership includes companies from across the wind, solar, and storage supply chains.
