Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex has secured a contract to supply and install turbines with a combined capacity of 47.6 megawatts (MW) for the Lavamünd wind project in southern Austria.
The order, placed by Austrian energy provider Kelag, includes seven N163/6.X turbines. Nordex also signed a 20-year premium service agreement for the long-term maintenance of the units.
The Lavamünd site is situated in the tri-border region of Carinthia, Styria, and Slovenia, on a forested ridge with elevations ranging between 1,240 and 1,430 metres.
First construction activities are scheduled to begin at the end of 2025, with phased civil works. Installation and commissioning of the turbines are expected in 2027.
According to Nordex, the turbines will be installed at two hub heights to accommodate the terrain. Four turbines will be mounted on 118-metre steel towers, while the remaining three will be placed on hybrid towers with a hub height of 164 metres.
The company said the project highlights the flexibility of its N163 platform, designed to perform in varying site conditions.
No financial details were disclosed beyond the estimated project capacity. However, the total order corresponds to nearly 48MW, marking one of the larger recent wind power contracts in Austria.
“This project underscores our ability to deliver tailored solutions for complex topographies,” a Nordex representative said in a statement.
