German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has announced a strategic shift in its business model, expanding its offering to include a broader range of green energy solutions such as battery storage, grid integration, and hybrid power plant design.
The move is aimed at providing wind farm developers with modular, integrated solutions that go beyond turbine supply. These offerings now include energy storage systems, system monitoring, maintenance, cybersecurity protection, and performance optimisation services.
“With this repositioning we are changing from a wind turbine manufacturer that offers servicing to an active provider of solutions and an enabler for the networked green energy ecosystem, with our wind turbines on centre stage,” said Udo Bauer, chief executive of Enercon.
The company said its expanded service portfolio is designed to add value for operators by enabling the design and implementation of hybrid systems that combine wind farms with storage and grid infrastructure.
“Together with our customers and partners we are embarking on new ways of combining the diverse elements of the green energy ecosystem into intelligently networked solutions – from power generation through to storage and feeding into the grid,” Bauer added.
The announcement comes alongside a brand relaunch, which Enercon said is intended to reflect its evolution into a more comprehensive energy solutions provider.
“With this new brand story we want to show that we do not just build wind turbines, but also seek to help our customers to unlock the full potential of their green energy solutions – both today and in the markets of tomorrow,” Bauer said.
Enercon’s expanded offer includes optional system upgrades such as yield- or load-optimised operating modes and reduced-noise functionality, as well as ongoing operational optimisation aimed at maintaining competitiveness over the lifespan of the assets.
