Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 has named Matthias Taft as its new chief executive, succeeding Paul Stormoen, who will transition to a position on the company’s board of directors.
Taft, who previously served as CEO of German renewables firm BayWa r.e., takes up the role with immediate effect. He brings over 15 years of experience at BayWa r.e., including 12 years as its chief executive, where he oversaw the company’s expansion as a global independent power producer (IPP) and project developer.
“It is both a great honour and a privilege to be appointed CEO of OX2,” Taft said in a statement. “With my experience and expertise in the industry, I will do my utmost to support the company as we strive to become one of the most reputable global developers, with an outstanding and high-performing IPP portfolio.”
Stormoen has led OX2 since 2011, overseeing its transformation from a local wind developer in Sweden to an international renewables company with operations spanning multiple technologies.
“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all colleagues at OX2 for giving me the opportunity and trust to lead during such formative years,” Stormoen said. “Together we have accomplished more than most, and we have built a very strong foundation for OX2 to continue to grow and prosper by staying true to our purpose.”
Chairman of the board Xabier Etxeberria welcomed the leadership change and thanked Stormoen for his contributions. “He [Taft] has more than 20 years of experience from the renewable energy industry and will bring a strong vision, leadership and a deep understanding of the customers,” Etxeberria said.
The leadership transition comes as OX2 continues to expand its portfolio across onshore wind, solar, and offshore wind projects, positioning itself as a long-term player in the global clean energy market.
