Chinese turbine manufacturer Dongfang Electric has installed a prototype 26-megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine at its Dongying test centre, marking what it claims is the world’s most powerful wind turbine installed to date. The company said the turbine uses integrated semi-direct drive technology and features a rotor with a swept area of 77,000 square metres.
