RES, a renewable energy developer, is currently in the early stages of exploring the potential for a wind farm and energy storage facility near Lauder in the Scottish Borders. To engage with the local community and gather valuable input, the developer has scheduled two public exhibitions in the area next week. These exhibitions aim to provide detailed information about the project, allow for discussions with the project team, and collect feedback on the initial design.
The exhibitions will feature various resources, including visualizations that offer an idea of the current site design and layout from different perspectives in the region. Gavin Shirley, the development project manager at RES, expressed his anticipation for engaging with the public regarding the plans for Longcroft Wind Farm. He welcomes constructive feedback on the project's layout and implementation, as it has the potential to shape and influence the design.

In addition to gathering comments on the proposal itself, RES is interested in hearing ideas on how the wind farm could contribute to long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits during its operational phase. By understanding the priorities of the communities involved, RES aims to develop a tailored community benefits package. This could include initiatives like RES' Local Electricity Discount Scheme, which offers an annual discount on electricity bills for properties in close proximity to the wind farm.
The wind farm proposal was initially made public in March 2023 when RES submitted a Scoping Report to the Scottish government's Energy Consents Unit. This report sought feedback from key consultees to ensure that the proposed scope of environmental work was comprehensive and aligned with the necessary regulations and guidelines.
