Odfjell Technology has secured a two-year contract with Vercana GmbH, the drilling unit of Vulcan Group, to supply tubular running services (TRS) for Vulcan’s Phase One Lionheart Project in Germany, which combines geothermal energy with sustainable lithium production.
The agreement covers drilling tool rental and TRS solutions for the onshore geothermal project near Landau in the Upper Rhine Valley. The development forms part of Germany’s efforts to scale up renewable energy and boost domestic lithium supply, with the geothermal sector projected to grow by nearly 2% annually between 2025 and 2029.
“This partnership with Vercana represents Odfjell Technology’s commitment to supporting the energy transition and expanding its involvement in green technology development,” said Alex Gomoescu, VP Continental Europe Well Services at Odfjell Technology. “Odfjell’s proven track record in geothermal drilling makes us well-placed to support this developing sector that addresses Germany’s sustainability and energy security priorities.”
Marco Koepsel, Managing Director of Vercana, said the collaboration strengthens Vulcan’s plans for renewable energy-linked lithium extraction. “With Odfjell Technology, we have a proven partner supporting our project with reliable technology and operational strength. Together, we are driving forward sustainable lithium production and contributing to the growth of renewable energy in Germany,” he said.
