PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti (DSSR), a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) under Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Group, has signed an agreement with PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia, a unit of the Philippines’ Energy Development Corporation (EDC), to form a joint venture focused on developing geothermal energy projects in Indonesia.
Indonesia, home to about 40% of the world’s geothermal reserves equivalent to 24 gigawatts, has so far developed only around 10%. The new partnership will target six geothermal fields across West Java, Flores, Jambi, West Sumatra and Central Sulawesi, with a combined potential of roughly 440 megawatts.
“This agreement goes beyond investment. It is a strategic collaboration to bring world-class knowledge and best practices from EDC to Indonesia,” said Lokita Prasetya, President Director of DSSR and Vice President Director of Dian Swastatika Sentosa. “Our goal is to strengthen national capacity in geothermal development and to fully harness the country’s natural potential for clean energy. Together, we aim to create real value for communities, the economy, and the environment.”
EDC, a subsidiary of First Gen Corporation and the Philippines’ largest renewable energy producer, described the partnership as a chance to apply decades of geothermal expertise in Indonesia. “By combining EDC’s global capabilities with DSSR’s strong local presence, this joint venture will not only develop projects, but also build capacity and transfer knowledge that will leave a lasting impact on Indonesia’s renewable energy sector,” said Francis Giles B. Puno, Vice-Chairman and CEO of EDC and President & COO of First Gen.
The collaboration supports Indonesia’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2060 and expanding the role of renewables in its energy mix. The partners said the venture reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening the country’s renewable energy capacity, improving energy security and contributing to Indonesia’s “Golden Indonesia 2045” vision of sustainable development.
