Prime Capital is investigating a turbine blade failure at its 92-megawatt (MW) Sandbacka wind farm in western Finland, after a blade detached from one of the site’s turbines earlier this month.
The incident occurred on August 14 at the Ostrobothnia-based project, which comprises 14 Siemens Gamesa 5.X turbines. The site is located northeast of Vaasa and began operations earlier in 2025.
“On August 14, 2025, a blade liberation incident occurred at the Sandbacka wind farm in Finland. No persons were injured. The area has been secured, and an investigation into the cause of the incident has begun,” Siemens Gamesa said in a statement. “Siemens Gamesa is in close contact with the customer to address the situation.”
Sandbacka was acquired by Prime Capital in 2022 from German developer Svevind through the Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund. The wind farm is equipped with SG 6.6-170 turbines with tip heights reaching up to 200 metres.
Both Siemens Gamesa and Prime Capital said they are working closely to determine the cause of the incident and assess any broader implications for operations.
The site remains offline as safety assessments and technical reviews continue.
