Econergy Renewable Energy has connected its 87-megawatt (MW) Oradea solar photovoltaic (PV) plant to Romania’s national electricity grid, the company said on Monday, marking its fourth operational solar project in the country.
The Oradea project, held indirectly through Econergy International Limited, brings the company’s connected and ready-to-connect portfolio in Romania to 447MW. An additional 788MW is currently under construction, with 559MW expected to begin construction by the end of 2025.
As part of its broader strategy in Romania, Econergy plans to integrate a 68MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Oradea site. The system is expected to provide grid-balancing services, optimise electricity sales, and create new revenue streams.
“The successful connection of Oradea marks another important milestone for Econergy in Romania,” said Eyal Podhorzer, chief executive of Econergy. “This achievement underscores our ability to deliver large-scale renewable projects while advancing our strategy of integrating storage solutions to maximise value for our stakeholders.”
The project was developed in partnership with Israel-based Phoenix Holdings, which has invested more than €225 million in Econergy’s projects across Romania and Poland.
Econergy also said it is in advanced discussions to secure project financing for the Oradea facility, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy footprint in Central and Eastern Europe.
